How long is the process?
There is background paperwork about where you served, medals and awards earned first, and then an interview of a minimum of 30-minutes in length. There is no maximum. The volunteer team will set up the conference room, video camera, required paperwork and sends the completed interview package to the Library of Congress.
Will I get a copy of my interview responses?
Yes. Austin volunteers will mail out complimentary copies to the interviewees.
Do I have to make an appointment?
Yes. Either by web or email.
Can I do an Interview if I'm still serving?
Veterans who served in the U.S. military, in any capacity, from WWI to the present, regardless of branch or rank, and are no longer serving are eligible. VHP accepts the stories of veterans as defined by the Department of Veterans Affairs: “A person who served in the active military service and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable.”
